Rory vs EVERYBODY. At least that’s how this Masters is shaping up from our POV. Rors comes into the first major of the year with a lot to prove.
A quick recap, The Masters is the last major Rory needs to secure the career grand slam (winning each of the four majors at least once). And to say it has proved elusive would be an understatement, here are Rory’s last five finishes at Augusta National, CUT, 2ND, T5, T21, T5. And don’t let that solo-2nd fool you, Rory shot a final round 64, which included holing out from the bunker on 18 (along with Colin Morikawa) to finish three back of Scottie Scheffler who four putted his way to victory on 18. Yes, Rory finished T5 twice in the last five but this dude ain’t looking for no top-5’s, he needs a dub, and he needs a dub now. Not only has he not won at Augusta, it has been nearly 10-years (!!!) since he won his last major (the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla).
Ok ok, so Rory has a lot to prove in winning his first major in 10-years, doing it at Augusta National and completing the career grand slam. No biggie, right? Well, here’s the twist, in order to do it he’s going to have to take down his biggest rivals in the LIV mafia, Brooks Koepka (who almost won it last year), Dustin Johnson (who recently won on LIV and has won at Augusta), Cameron Smith (who recently went fishing in Australia, but is also still very good at golf), and none other than Patrick Reed (who has won at Augusta before and finished T4 last year). Oh and don’t forget good ole Phil Mickelson (who finished T2 last year). In six events so far in 2024 Rors has five top-25’s and one top-10 against the worst fields the PGA TOUR has seen in decades 😬.
Can Rory muster one magical weekend and get the juvenile monkey off his back???? Or will it be more of the same and more questions marks?? 🍿🍿
There is supposed to be lots of rain Thursday morning in Augusta for the start of The Masters, with talks of even delaying round 1. The players all reported that the greens were playing extremely firm and fast this week in their practice rounds so you might see some guys go low Thursday if the rain softens things up.
When we do get the guys out there playing, here are a couple of pairings to look for in order of when they tee off: Hideki, Zalatoris, JT (10:18ET); Scheffler, Rory, Schauffle (10:42ET); Tiger, Jason Day, Homa (1:24ET); Spieth, Aberg, Theegala (1:48ET); and the last group to go off DJ, Morikawa, Fleetwood (2:00ET). Whick group will you be following closest?

We’re sweating a three bet power play for tomorrows opening round thanks to our good friends at PrizePicks. Going 3/3 pays out 5x ($100 wins $500) so here’s what we’re thinking:
For the last 40 days and 40 nights, Tiger Woods has abstained from having sex to try and prepare himself to compete for another green jacket. There’s no question that has been the hardest thing he’s ever had to do but even with that in mind, we still love him under 2.5 birdies tomorrow. Look for him to play a bit more conservative Thursday-Friday to try and put himself in a position to make the cut for the 24 consecutive time.
Over the last 10 years, Rory’s scoring average in the first and second rounds is 72.3. With 36 of the last 37 Masters champions having been in the top 10 through two rounds, Rory will need a strong start to put himself in content. We’re bullish on him this year so we’re taking him under 72 strokes.
Wyndham Clark has never played Augusta before and his round one total strokes line reflects that at 73. But with a game built for the majors and a new winning mindset built by Julie Elion, we think he’s got enough fire power to make up for any rookie mistakes.
