The Sunday Sweat
U.S. Open
Every Sunday, the LoopGolf team writes a newsletter for our community highlighting all the action around golf, betting and culture.
Hypegolf is a break-off platform and community from Hypebeast, a digital media company that highlights trends in fashion, culture, art, design, and music. Today, Hypebeast reaches 26 million social media users and over 18 million visitors on their site monthly and has been expanding its horizons in streetwear to include golf over the last few years.
On Monday, we attended the Hypegolf Invitational which was a one-of-a-kind event that unites the worlds of golf and fashion. We got an opportunity to connect with with some of the industries rising stars and believe it or not, tee’d it up with MySpace Tom lol… Big shoutout to our advisor Ray Mate’ for the invite.
Los Angeles Country Club (LACC) is a very unique US OPEN venue. LACC is one of the most exclusive clubs in the country, with only 800 members. The vetting process to become a member goes deep into your social life, career and family life, there are no celebrities allowed, even though celebrities own $100 million dollar homes right off the course (including the former Playboy mansion), and if you’re lucky enough to get through the vetting process, the initiation fee is $250,000 with $25,000 annual dues.
This exclusivity made it difficult for even the pros to get in practice time at this Gil Hans renovated golf course, very unique for a US OPEN venue. With many of the pros seeing the course for the first time this past Monday when they arrived on the grounds, this has made for a very even playing field for this US OPEN.

The Narrative: BIG DICK RICK is back! With one of the most infamous nicknames on the PGA TOUR, Rickie Fowler has had a very challenging past four years on TOUR after winning the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open. As many of us know, golf can be… fickle.
Rick spent the past four years simply trying to keep his TOUR card, at last year's US OPEN, he attended hoping he could get in as an alternate, waiting around in the parking lot. It didn’t happen for him. After hitting, “beyond rock bottom,” Rick sought out Butch Harmon, one of the greatest professional golf coaches ever. And after a few years of grinding, ya boy has quietly had a great 2023 season, with 17 events played, 12 top-25s, 1 runner up, and 6 top-10s. Not only that, Rick is T-1 heading into the final round of the US OPEN.
To say this would be a feel good story is an understatement. One of the most beloved players on TOUR by both the fans and players, this would be one of the best comeback stories in sports. And btw, Rick’s 5 PGA TOUR wins does not include a major championship.
But Rick is going to have to hold off some serious talent, and I’m not talking about the hotties in nearby Hollywood. I’m talking about a few of the best golfers on the planet, Rory Mcilroy is currently one back and Scottie Scheffler is 3 back at 7-under par. Get your popcorn ready. The final round of the 2nd to last major of the year is going to be a doozy.
Don’t count Scottie Scheffler out. He finished his third round on two of the hardest holes on the course with an epic hole out eagle on 17 and a birdie on 18.

Wyndham Clark is making a name of himself. And this dude hits BOMBS. One of the longest drivers on TOUR, he also has a little swagger to go with it. Keep your eye on this kid.
Come for the shot. Stay for the twirl.

Outright Winner: Rory Mcllroy @ +210 ($100 to win $210)
Why? In all three majors that Rory’s scored 67 or lower in consecutive rounds to begin play, he's 3-0 claiming trophies. He’s been noticeably locked in all week, leading the field in strokes gained off the tee but above all, he’s showed discipline and displayed patience in all right moments. We’re riding with Rory to get it done today to secure his fifth major.
