The Sunday Sweat

RBC Heritage

Every Sunday, the LoopGolf team writes a newsletter for our community highlighting all the action around golf, betting and culture.

In search of the career Grand Slam, Rory went into The Masters on a tear. He won the TOUR Championship to cap off the 2021-2022 season, The CJ CUP in October of 2022, finished T2 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, 3rd at the WGC Match Play event, and is currently a top-3 player in the world.

You could argue his game never looked better heading into The Masters, looking to accomplish what only five others have accomplished on the PGA TOUR, winning all major championships at least once. But then the wheels came off. Rory shot 72, 77 and not only didn’t compete during the weekend, but missed the cut by 3 🤕.

Then came the news Monday of this week that he was withdrawing from the RBC Heritage without explanation. This wouldn’t ordinarily be a big deal, maybe he was fatigued from the run he was on, he needed a break after a disappointing appearance at The Masters. The issue is the RBC is an elevated event and he already missed an elevated event earlier this year, skipping the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui. By missing two elevated events this season, he will now be forced to forgo $3M of guaranteed bonus money owed to him by the PGA TOUR.

Rors has been the number one proponent of the new elevated event format on TOUR. Breaking the very rules he helped the TOUR put in place feels a bit odd. Like there might be something more going on that we’re not being told. Or maybe with all his endorsement money he could care less about $3M’s and decided to spend the week in Bora Bora 🤷‍♂️. Only time will tell.

Matt Fitzpatrick has never won a non-major PGA Tour event, but has a U.S. Open win on his resume and is the 16th ranked player in the world. He has looked DIALED this weekend, and Vegas has their eye on him as he is the betting favorite heading into Sunday (+225 to win). Check out his eagle hole out👇🏽

The RBC Heritage is living up to the label of "elevated event" with some of golf's biggest names like Fitzpatrick, Cantlay, Spieth, Scheffler, and Schauffle in the hunt. Saturday's round was full of highlights, check out the recap from the day👇🏽

You might have expected Jon Rahm (+9,000 to win)to lay low this week after catching a Masters dub last weekend, but the #1 player in the world is staying dialed in Hilton Head. He sits 6 back of the lead heading into Sunday. This one should've dropped...

Patrick Cantlay (+260 to win) came under fire this past week after being accused of playing "brutally slow" by Brooks Koepka after Sunday's round at The Masters. Folks have been destroying Cantlay online for his slow play and to be honest, I didn't think Cantlay had this in him... but after an ace at Harbortown he clapped back at the haters with a tweet of his own:
