The Sunday Sweat

U.S. Women's Open

Every Sunday, the LoopGolf team writes a newsletter for our community highlighting all the action around golf, betting and culture.

At LoopGolf, we love numbers đź¤“, we especially love tracking them, and thanks to all of you, Loop’s numbers have been 🚀🚀.

Last month we set monthly records for new downloads, active customers, and gross payment volume (the amount of money flowing through Loop), and games played. In fact, over the past five (!) weeks we have set a new record for number of games played in a week.

Let’s keep the mo folks!!!! We can’t thank y’all enough for trusting us with your on-course experience. We’re just getting started. As a reminder we have wolf, community feed reactions, and GPS coming your way 👀.

As always, keep the feedback coming so we can continue building for all of you. You can always respond to these emails or email [email protected] with any feedback or issues you may be having.

Michelle Wie West is one of the biggest names in all of Golf and after close to a quarter of a century in the spotlight, she’s officially retiring from professional golf at the age of 33. Wie was a childhood prodigy and quickly rose to stardom after competing in a men’s PGA Tour event at the age of 14, turning professional at the age of 15 and proceeding to finish top 5 in her first 3 major appearances.

Despite the early spotlight that never seemed to fade, Wie West’s greatest career accomplishment came years later after a series of injuries that plagued her game. In 2014, she won the U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst, which was ultimately the star of her five career wins on the LGPA Tour.

She did not win as much as she wanted to, and certainly not as much as many people thought she would, but she’s leaving behind a legacy that’s much bigger than wins or losses. The phenom from Honolulu pushed the boundaries of the women’s game, inspired the next generation of female golfers and broke down many barriers along the way. Enjoy this special tribute video 👇

The LPGA is in Pebble Beach California this week for the 70th U.S. Women’s Open Championship. All eyes are on Rose Zhang, the young 20-year-old superstar who recently delivered one of the most historic moments in the sport. Just 13 days after winning her second-straight NCAA individual title while at Stanford, Zhang shocked the golf world by winning her professional debut, becoming the first to do so since Beverly Hanson in 1951.

The Narrative: Nasa Hataoka from Japan went full psycho mode during Saturday’s 3rd round of the Women’s US Open, shooting a bogeyless 6-under 66 to take the outright lead by one heading into Sunday’s final round. To put this in perspective, the next best round of the day was 2-under and only four players accomplished that feat. With six career victories and 37 career top-10s, Hataoka is no stranger to be a top the leaderboard. But this is Sunday at a US Open folks! Anything is possible.

Zhang Watch: Zhang is currently T9, eight off the lead.

Nasa Hataoka sent one right at the pin on 17 with a 7-iron to cap off her incredible 6-under round on Moving Day. This shot was dead down wind and had to be tough to stop on the Pebble greens. A 2 is never a bad thing to have on the scorecard, check out how she finished this par 3 late in her incredible round Saturday:

The ROOKIE is making some noise this week on the biggest stage. Bailey Tardy held a share of the lead at one point on Saturday and now sits 3 back heading into Sunday. Here she is chipping in on the par 4 11th:

Allisen Corpuz is an American in the hunt this week at Pebble. Corpuz posted a 69 and 70 on the first two days to set herself up well for the weekend. She is currently the 29th ranked golfer in the world and sits one back of the lead! Another classy chip in here from Corpuz:

Outright Winner: Hyo Joo Kim @ +360 ($100 to win $360)

Why? Hyo came out hot to start the week shooting a 68 during the 1st round. Since then she has been a bit quiet, she shot a 71 on Friday and on Saturday (albeit in tough conditions) a 73. But Kim has the experience to lean on, with five career victories and 49 top-10s, we think Kim as a great shot at steadying the ship today and taking advantage of Hataoka likely cooling off after her psychotic 6-under yesterday.
