The Sunday Sweat

WM Phoenix Open

Every Sunday, the LoopGolf team writes a newsletter for our 1,507 members highlighting all the action around golf, betting and culture.

Tiger last played a PGA Tour event this past summer at The Open in St. Andrews. And he last played a non-major Tour event at the ZOZO Championship all the way back in October 2020. Well that's all about to change. While the golf world was focused on the action at the WM Open this past week, Tiger casually announced he will be playing next weekend at Riviera Country Club for the Genesis Invitational. As is always the case when Tiger tees it up, there are multiple storylines at play;

  • This is the same tournament Tiger was attending when he was involved in a severe single car crash that almost took his life.

  • Following this accident, he still has been unable to walk a full 18-holes due to the damage done to his right ankle.

  • Tiger is still tied with Sam Snead for the winningest golfer of all-time, with 82 wins. A win next weekend would officially catapult him into a league of his own.

Is it just us or do you all also cling on to the glimmer of hope that Tiger comes out absolutely firing next weekend rides off into the California sunset as the winningest golfer of all time? πŸ…

Tom Kim burst onto the scene this fall at the President's cup. Now the 20-year old is currently the 14th ranked player in the world and is gunning for his first big win at an elevated event. The PGA Tour has been attempting to push out new and improved content with more in-depth access to players. Check out this conversation between Kim and his caddie:

The Par 3 16th at the WM Open has become one of the most iconic holes in golf. 17,000+ fans occupy the stands all week in hopes of witnessing an ace so they can toss their drinks onto the green. Although we have yet to see an ace through the first three days, the last shot on Saturday from Adam Hadwin almost gave fans what they've been looking for:

At 34, Rickie Fowler is no longer one of golf's young super stars. Once a perennial top-10 player in the world, Fowler is now in Year 3 of his massive slump that dropped him all the way down to 146th in the world rankings. With a new swing and a new caddie this season, he's one win away from pulling off a comeback story for the ages. At 4 back from the leader and +3500 -- you better believe we're taking a flyer on this comeback kid!
